The fulfillment technique known as back-to-back order processing involves hard-pegging supply to a specific customer demand. In this setup, as soon as a customer order is received, the organization triggers the procurement of goods or raw materials needed to fulfill that order without holding additional inventory. This method is particularly effective in environments where demand is variable or uncertain because it minimizes excess stock while ensuring that customer needs are promptly met.

The other fulfillment techniques involve different processes that do not strictly adhere to this hard-pegging methodology. For instance, internal material transfers and intra-org orders typically involve stock that is already on hand within the organization, and may not be specifically tied to a single customer demand. Drop shipments, while they can be related to customer orders, often involve shipping goods directly from a supplier to the customer, which can introduce variation in how demand and supply are linked.
